A step closer---

We have been researching vehicles to purchase with the intent of driving this vehicle into Belize. Because we know the road conditions in Belize are ever changing, we decided to narrow the search to 4WD capability. Also on our list is: light color, off road tires, hard top (don't want to be ripped by a machete) dependability, automatic transmission, tow bar, winch, brand dealership (service) in Belize. This brought us to Jeep.

I visited the local Jeep dealer and spent a couple of hours becoming educated about the Wranglers.
There are 3 styles of Wrangler: Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon. The Sport, basically, is the lowest price and has 16 inch road tires. The Sahara is the next step up and has off-road tires, while the Rubicon is the top of the line with heavy duty off road tires, most beneficial for those who take off-roading seriously.

My biggest issue is with the height of the Jeeps--I'm 5' 0"--and hiking up into the Sport just wasn't easy, the Sahara and Rubicon are equipped with a step that makes it easier to enter the vehicle, I'll still need the hand straps. And, yes, the gas mileage is not wonderful -17/21-but that will be the least of our worries, if we get stuck in the ruts or mud on the roads, we need to be able to work our way out.

After some deliberation, I chose the Sahara--had the most versatility for our budget, already had off road tires, so I drove it. I was pleasantly surprised at the feel of the ride--very smooth and little road/engine noise. The steering and turning radius are tight--could be beneficial in tight spots! The height of the vehicle is also an advantage--it's 17 inch clearance should get us over most heaves and bumps.

I drug Larry to the dealership yesterday, he was also educated, drove it, dropped it into 4WD and agreed that the Sahara would be our best option. So we purchased it! 4 hours later we drove it home!
We are now the proud owners of a white 2012 Wrangler Sahara!

One step closer!
